Minkies, with their flowing pulsating wings, are deadly at fry time during the late summer/autumn. Twitched, fished slowly or stripped back on all lines, near weed beds and in the margins, they are deadly for fry feeding trout. The conehead version fishes a little deeper and attains depth more quickly, the extra weight at the front also imparts and different action to the fly during a twitched retrieve. The olive minkie is also a good early season pattern fished slow and deep.
